Spring fever over the Zugerberg

07.03.2009 - Flying

Spurred on by the beautiful spring weather, it pulls me today once again outside. Corinne meets with an old friend anyway, so I have the afternoon to myself. So off I go, read the weather report on the net, check the wind direction, and choose my destination: West wind, Zuggerberg. Go!

On the way I realize how much snow there has been again. Shortly before the Zugerberg I see from the car just over the glittering snow cover. I am not the only one with the idea to take advantage of the first spring term. There must be 10 pilots in the air and as many on the ground. I get ready and take the last South African straws out of my helmet. The wind is coming from the front and pulling up is a piece of cake. In the meantime, all pilots in the air have dropped again. But I don't let myself be distracted and I'm sure I'll be happy about a short flight - if the landing works out. But the weather and the view are just too good to worry about.

I get away well (in the second attempt) and start into the empty sky. The vario fiipst soon and a short time later I already overheight the launch site. What a picture: Above everything white below everything green. Except the lake, which is blue and glistens. I can hold with 45 minutes in the mild air and get even still some snapshots with the Digicam, although I have secured neither this nor my gloves... No risk, no pictures. The landing works wonderfully - who would have thought that after my last two landings (delta landing in Italy with dislocated shoulder, paraglider landing in South Africa backwards with furrow in the field). Feels great.

I pack my paraglider in the dry, green grass and then make my way back to the snowy summit where my car is parked. Thanks to the cable car this goes quite quickly and I only need to carry my heavy backpack straight ahead through the beautiful snowy landscape. The sun is already low and I shoot some snow and cloud pictures.
