South Africa - Frenschhök

08.02.2009 - Travel

Cozy Sunday with reading in the garden. Around noon we want to leave for the sea. But from a distance we see the beach shrouded in thick clouds. We change our plans and drive inland: Frenschhök, a lovely area, originally inhabited by the Huguenots, who brought the know-how for the good wine from France to South Africa. Hilly landscape. Could just as well be Swiss.

Chrigi accompanies us. We explore the village on foot and are soon sitting in the airy backyard of a small tourist pub, of which Franschhök is teeming with. We try the cool cider. Really delicious. And we are hungry again.

After lunch we climb the Freschhök pass to enjoy the view over the green Tahl with the large new reservoir. According to the wind gauge, the wind is about 40 km/h strong. I am already looking around for launch sites. The not very high mountain range forms an ideal U for cross country flights. I can already see the thermals in my mind's eye. But on the ground today is just as beautiful.

We are already on our way home. Shanti-Shanti. It is again a heat. We grill Swiss Servelats and wonder what it's like in Switzerland ;-)
